| Whereas at one time there was no large scale organised labour, large teams of "navigators" or "naviies" moved from canal project to canal project living in makeshift housing. For example in 1769 1000 men were working on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire and Grand Trunk canals, plus more on the Oxford, and Coventry canals. |
