Photograph of boat workers on boats, at Paddington, in later years

In this picture we see a wide beamed boat (left), used for short distances, by a crew who lived on land. We also see a family operated narrowboat. The family lived on board. The picture is probably taken at Paddington. The way of life did not change much during the 19th Century. Even after the coming of the railways, canals were still a big industry with a lot of workers.
