Teacher

The Canal museum provides a unique learning experience for each age group They will see what life was like aboard a working narrow boat. They will discover how canals shaped the country that we know today, Learn about the cargo that was brought around the country and see how Ice was stored during the Victorian ice trade. Teachers can also book educational workshops and download lesson plans for each age group to further their experience and either follow on or inspire further projects at school.

Exhibitions enable historical developments in transport to be placed in chronological order, e.g. river navigation, canals, railways, road transport.

KS1 History - place events in chronological order

The narrowboat Coronis has a cabin which was the main home of a family and pupils can go inside.

KS1 History - identify differences between ways of life at different times

There is a wide range of evidence available from the galleries in photographs, the building itself, the adjoining canal and boats, and the artifacts in the museum.

KS1 - Historical enquiry

The pictures and artifacts relating to canal life provide a basis for understanding the lives of the many local people who worked on the canal.
