On 13th May 1826 some 21 officers and 635 troops embarked from Paddington for Manchester on a day-and-night emergency 260 mile journey by canal boat to restore order. There was unrest in the silk industry in Lancashire. .

<b>Mayor Makes Splash</b><br/>
In September 1977 the Mayor of Camden visited a canoe project beside the canal. As he was crossing between shore and a boat he fell into the canal, complete with robes and chain of office. He was soon helped out by the astonished guests and made his way to the mayoral car.
