Whilst so many families are staying at home, we're running a "Draw a Narrowboat" competition for the under 14s. Parents or other relatives should enter on behalf of children.

Get drawing a Narrowboat

This competition is intended to be a bit of creative fun whilst so many families are staying at home. We'd like children under 14 to enter the competition via their parents or other family or carers. It is completely free and you don't have to like or follow us although we'd be very happy if you choose to follow us on any or all of our social media channels.

The drawing or painting needs to be a picture of a narrowboat. We will be posting some pictures of narrowboats on our Facebook and Twitter feeds to inspire you but you don't have to draw any particular boat. When it comes to choosing the winners we'll take the age of the artist into account.

Competition Rules

As for any competition, there have to be a few rules. These are the rules that apply to your participation in our Facebook Draw-a-narrowboat competition. By submitting your entry you agree to these rules. If you do not agree, please do not enter the competition.

1. The promoter of the competition is The Canal Museum Trust. The Canal Museum Trust is a registered charity, number 277484, and is the organisation that runs the London Canal Museum. The competition is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.

2. The competition is open to UK residents aged 14 or over and we encourage parents, grandparents, carers, guardians, or other relatives to enter the competition on behalf of younger children. Sorry but we will not send prizes to addresses outside the UK.

3. This is a competition of skill not a ramdom prize draw. We will choose three entries to win the prizes and will take into account the age of the artist as well as the finished result. We will use our best endeavours to choose the most meritorious entries. The judge or judges' decision is final.

4. Your entry will not be considered if it is late, or not in our opinion a picture of a narrowboat, if it is a duplicate, or contains anything offensive or unsuitable for viewing by children. We will remove unsuitable or offensive entries from public view as soon as possible.

5. The prizes are books and a soft toy from the museum shop. There is no cash alternative on offer.

6. Your entry must be a photograph or a scan of the work of art created by the child artist. Do not submit a photograph of any person whomsoever. Please avoid sending image files of more than 3 Mb if possible. We accept jpg, png, or gif file formats. Entries may be submitted via Facebook, or email. Entries by post will not be accepted.

7. You agree that your entry may be shown to the public on Facebook and on other social media without restriction. The winners will be named publicly unless you ask us in an email to info@canalmuseum.org.uk to withold their names. For example we might announce on social media "congratulations to John Smith of Watford, aged 8, who has won a prize". We will not publicly identify the social media profiles of anyone under 18.

8. Winners will be notified via email and Facebook, if messaging is available. If you do not reply within a week we will award the prize to someone else.

9. Any personal information and contact details you supply will be used only for the purposes of administering the competition. We won't retain this information for longer than necessary.

10. You do not need to buy anything, pay any fee, or even to follow the London Canal Museum on any social media, although we would be pleased if you did.

11. London Canal Museum staff and volunteers are not eligible to enter the competition - we run internal events for our own team.

12. Prizes will be sent by post to a UK address only. Winners will be asked to provide a UK postal address for this purpose.

13. The competition is subject to the laws of England and Wales
