Key Points

About the building

The building was built in the 1860s as a warehouse for storing natural ice imported from Norway. There's a view down into one of two preserved commerical ice wells from the ground floor. The decor is industrial with exposed brick walls and a fine pitched Victorian timber roof. It is located beside Battlebridge Basin on The Regent's Canal, a colourful urban beauty spot with access to the wharf for arrival by boat and enjoyment of the canal scene. A museum since 1992, it is on two floors that lend themselves well to events of different types and those with more than once phase, e.g. a reception followed by a meal.

The ground floor gallery is dominated by a colourful narrowboat and guests are surrounded by exhibits from the canal age and the ice trade. It is a split-level floor with a mezzanine floor area adjoining the outside wharf, with full-height windows offering a view of the basin even in bad weather. The ground floor is ideal for receptions and unseated drinks parties and provides some great photo-opportunities! It is also suitable for smaller dinners in dramatic surroundings.

The first floor exhibits can be moved for events to provide a larger space with a splendid victorian timber roof for a presentation, conference, dinner, or party. The exposed brick walls can be lit to create an atmospheric backdop to events. The solid floor is well suited to dancing.

The meeting room is on the first floor and is used for board and committee meetings, business awaydays and training courses. It is also used as an extension of the kitchen and for storage before and after large-scale events such as weddings or dinners.

The kitchen is on the first floor and offers basic facilities but all cooking equipment is hired or provided by your chosen caterer

Ladies and gents toilets are located on the first floor, and there is a unisex toilet on the ground floor, suitable for disabled guests. The toilets are all modern and finished to a high standard.

The museum is fully accessible to guests and delegates with disabilities, with lift access to both floors and many other access features.
